The Baseball Victoria International Friendship Series is an annual event that allows Victorian children to host teams predominately from the International Boys Nankyu Baseball Association, Japan Incorporation (IBA Boys).

Teams from Japan, and recently Singapore and Taiwan, as well as NSW, come and experience new cultures, create new friends, reacquaint with old friends and play baseball.

The series is held in late March each year at venues across Melbourne. Our visitors are treated to local family hospitality and sightseeing attractions within Melbourne, including Puffin’ Billy, the Queen Victoria Market and the Phillip Island Penguin Parade.

The series has been staged in Melbourne for over 15 years. It is available only for Under 12 boys and girls and games are played under baseball rules (as opposed to Little League rules).

Dear Player

Due to the high standard we have witness so far within the Little League Program, we would like to invite you to participate in the International Friendship Series.

The Baseball Victoria International Friendship Series (IFS) is an annual event in which we host 3 teams from the International Boys Nankyu Baseball Association Japan Incorporation (IBA Boys).

Since 1990, the series is held in late March/April each year at venues across Melbourne. The dates for 2014 shall be 26th March to 2nd April. An exact itinerary and schedule of games will be released at the start of March.

Along with the teams from Japan, Baseball Victoria will field five teams including the 2012 U12 Kangaroos Touring Teams that went and participate in Japan.

To assist with the billeting of the Japanese players, we require the family of each child participating in this program, to host at least two visiting children.

In the past, our visitors have been treated to local family hospitality and sightseeing (time is usually allocated in the itinerary) and sightseeing attractions within a fixed itinerary include Melbourne CBD, Puffing Billy, the Queen Victoria Market and the Phillip Island Penguin Parade.

Cost

There is no cost to participate in the International Friendship Series.

IFS Basic Rules

The field is slightly larger than the Under 12 (Little League) field – base paths are 23m (75.5 feet) and pitching distance is 16m (52.5 feet).

The ball used is a Kenko rubberball, WBF size C. The ball is a hard rubber that is slightly softer and smaller than a regular baseball.

Scores are not recorded in this series, which means players will be given opportunities to play in a number of positions. There are also no pitching restrictions, however all players will be required to pitch throughout the series.

Base runners can take a lead and steal bases while the ball is live. This also means pitchers are allowed to pitch from a set position and pick off to bases where a runner is standing.
